Zach was a graduate student in the lab. He was in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Graduate Group. He is from York, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Chemistry in 2014. Zach conducted undergraduate research in David Colby's laboratory on detection and structural analysis of misfolded tau protein associated with Alzheimer's disease. In 2017, Zach was awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Zach defended his Ph.D. thesis 'Therapeutic genetic variation revealed in diverse Hsp104 homologs'  in July, 2020. In 2021, Zach won the Saul Winegrad Award for best dissertation by a BMB student. Zach went on to pursue a post-doc with Priyanka Narayan at NIH.
